STORY:
"I" does not have a complicated story-the director keeps it simple but makes it a treat to watch with a wonderful screenplay. The movie revolves around the story of Lingesan a body builder who is also a huge fan of Diya (Amy Jackson) a supermodel. Lingesan who wins the title of Mr.Tamilnadu has an ambition of making it big by winning the title of Mr.India. Diya on the other hand is a busy model who seeks the help of Lingesan for her upcoming Ad-shoot as she had been frequently troubled by her previous co-model John (Upen Patel). Lingesan gives up his ambitions for helping Diya and agrees to do the advertisement. With this Ad he leaves a huge mark in the advertisement world and gets many such offers - in between which Lingesan and Diya fall in love with each other.Due to Lingesan's rising fame and honesty towards work John loses his modelling contracts and a huge company supplying un-hygienic products goes down.John and a few others who have a grudge against Lingesan together make a plan to bring him down and they inject a virus named "Influenza" or the "I" Virus(Now you know where the title comes from) into his body after beating him up badly without him knowing what they had done to him.The virus causes Lingesan to permanently transform into a creepy looking man with a hunchback. Lingesan seeks revenge on the people who spoilt his dreams and that is what the movie revolves around.
REVIEW:
A lot had been expected from the movie as soon as the trailer was launched but the movie does not keep up to the viewers expectations.."I" has a wonderful concept a simple story which has been depicted well on screen. The movie has great visuals , action, makeup and fine acting but a huge drawback is that such a simple story has been dragged to a length of three hours with a lot of predictable scenes in the story - line.
Vikram gives an outstanding performance with his fine acting as well as his multiple looks.(a bodybuilder,a model.a beast and a hunchback). His acting and a decent screenplay is what holds the whole movie from falling apart , not many of them would have experimented with such a role.Amy Jackson looks beautiful every time she appears on screen and has acted well. Upen Patel has done a decent job but he could have done better.
Shankar has directed the movie well keeping in mind that the story is simple. He has done a good job which can be seen on-screen.The visual effects, song and action sequences are great to watch.
The music has been composed by A.R.Rahman and there are many nice songs in the movie(Though i don't understand tamil much).
The first half of the movie is good but the story moves at snails pace in this half whereas the second half turns out to be great.
DRAWBACKS:
The main drawback of the movie is the length.Such a simple story has been dragged for a long time making the viewers to get bored a bit but the visuals and performances keep the viewers alive. The movie could have been cut short by a few minutes,
The next thing is the story-The concept of the story is good but the story could have been slightly better.
"I" is quite good even though it has minor drawbacks. Outstanding performances, visual effects ,action and much more is packed in the movie and "I" is surely a movie to watch this weekend.
